Evangelism begins long before we have a Gospel conversation. It can begin by simply bringing someone’s name before God and consistently praying for their salvation. Pastor Jim also emphasizes that evangelism is often a long-term mission. The people God has placed in our lives may need to be prayed for over many years. We may not immediately see the results of our prayers or know when someone will be ready to hear the Gospel, but we can remain faithful and continue praying. Prayer helps us develop a genuine burden for others. As we pray for our friends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, and communities, God can prepare both their hearts and ours for opportunities to share the Gospel. Evangelism is not about rushing someone into a decision. It is about faithfully following Jesus, building relationships, praying consistently, recognizing opportunities, and trusting God with the results. Who are you praying for?

When we faithfully share Scripture, we can trust God with the results. The second lesson is just as important: be more interested than interesting.When we talk with someone about faith, we don’t need to dominate the conversation or immediately try to explain everything we believe. Instead, we can listen. Ask questions. Discover what matters to the person in front of us. Learn about their experiences, concerns, hopes, and questions.When we genuinely listen, the conversation can help reveal opportunities to share the truth and hope of Jesus in a way that speaks directly to that person’s situation. Evangelism is not simply about having the right words. It is about prayer, relationships, listening, and being sensitive to God’s leading.Before your next Gospel conversation, take time to pray. Then listen carefully. Be genuinely interested in the person God has placed in front of you, and trust Him to guide the conversation. Who could you begin praying for today? Coffee Devo with Go & Tell Ministries features Pastor Jim Halstead speaking at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter meeting at Indiana State University. Before Pastor Jim shared his message, students gathered for a meaningful time of Christian worship. The worship service created an opportunity for students to come together, praise God, and prepare their hearts to hear His Word. Pastor Jim was grateful for the opportunity to spend time with the FCA chapter and share the message of Jesus. At the heart of the gathering was a simple but important mission: Go and share the Gospel. Make disciples.
